Christmas Eve

We had Christmas Eve dinner after all, but we were down one person who was stuck in the snow. Tomorrow's looking promising now for getting out and about for Christmas dinner. So far we've watched Scrooged, It's a Wonderful Life and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation -- I think we're all set for Christmas now!

Tilt-shift photography

I think tilt-shift photography has to be one of the coolest things I've ever seen.  It's like taking a photo, but having it look like a set full of miniatures!

Here's the exact definition from Wikipedia:
Tilt-shift photography refers to the use of camera movements on small- and medium format cameras, often tilting the lens relative to the image plane to achieve a very shallow depth of field. The technique relies on the Scheimpflug principle and usually requires the use of special lenses. “Tilt-shift” actually encompasses two different types of movements: rotation of the lens, called tilt, and movement of the lens parallel to the image plane, called shift. Tilt is used to control the orientation of the plane of focus (PoF), and hence the part of an image that appears sharp. Shift is used to control perspective, usually involving the convergence of parallel lines.

Hanging with my peep

Saturday was a girlie day, with my sister and her hub visiting us for the weekend. We started the day with a little photo shoot (so she can look back and say that she is/was a 'hot mama'!) worked our way to Whole Foods, fabric and craft stores, and ended the day with a BBQ full of sticky ribs.

Rolleiflex camera

This is a retro-looking camera that's digital. Tiny, with a twin lens reflex that makes it great for portraits. You can take shots up to 4 inches away to infinity (ooo ahh!). I'll take the red one please.

During a low-budget photo shoot...

We spied a koi pond that was being fed by a waiter from a pub in Sidney (coincidentally the pub was right next to the koi pond). Cool, non?

Technical difficulties

There was no post yesterday due to me wrestling with my new flickr account and blogger. I'm attempting to figure out how the heck I post multiple pictures in one blog post, but no luck yet.

If you're just itching to see all the action, visit my photostream over at flickr.

*sigh*
