Things have been a tad busy around here...

Quite possibly the best Christmas movie ever...
As I type, Trevor is attempting to unplug the drain (and I mean the big drain pipe, like in the basement) from the 18 potatoes worth of peelings. This was for the mashed potatoes we had with our big dinner with Trevor's family yesterday. Can't say it's all my fault, I was going to put them in a bag and Trevor said 'just garborate them!'. And well, I did...and now...well the kitchen sink and dishwasher are all out of service until the drain is unclogged. Two trips to Home Depot so far today!

We're heading off on the ferry this afternoon to go see my fam on the island. It will be nice to spend Christmas over there with my side of the fam! My mom's Christmas dinner is the ONLY way to go for Christmas Day. I wish that my sister and brother-in-law were spending it with us, but I hope that we're able to go and visit them at the hospital so I can rub that tummy of hers for the first time! (now that's a good Christmas present!)

Hope everyone has a good Christmas as well!

Day 1: Before we knew the real deal

We started the trip by driving down to Seattle the night before our flight out of SeaTac early Wednesday morning. What was supposed to be a fairly organized day ended up being a bit of a disaster. I didn't start to pack everything up until around 3:30pm that afternoon, and Trevor ended up having to pack his stuff when he came home from work. I wanted to get going and be driving around 6pm at the latest...I think we finally made it out the door around 7:30pm. What a hassle.

The drive down was fine, the traffic got a little hairy closer to Seattle (um, 4 lane freeway merged to 1...back-up city). We got some gas just outside Seattle and froze our knads off with the slowest pump ever. We treated ourselves to a two-pack of Hostess cupcakes. (By the way, they are crappy.)

We parked at a lot off the airport and took that shuttle to the airport, where we called for the hotel shuttle to come and pick us up (crafty, non? No cab fares!). We stayed at the Red Lion that night (won on Priceline) and made it there just after 11pm. It was mediocre and just a place to sleep. I will never understand why hotels use these horrible mini-pillows. Would a normal-sized pillow be so wrong?
There's bonus points for anyone who can pronounce the name of the cleaner on the card, lol.

The flight the next day was fine. I'm still getting over my new fear of flying (thanks America West flight, worst ever! Scarred for life!), but we were on Alaska so at least that gave me some hope. I'm fine in the air (cruising), landing (yippee!), but HATE take-offs. I think I squeezed Trevor's hand so hard that his other one became three times it's normal size, lol. But I made it through it (no Marge Simpson's 'letmeoffletmeoff' freak outs).

We landed in Orlando around dinner time and we made it to the hotel around 7-8pm. It was nice to feel some warm weather at that point! We took the Disney Magical Express (not overly magical, just a big bus really) to the hotel and checked into the Pop Century Resort (slash zoo...more on that later). We had a room in the 70s building (there's five sections with buildings all corresponding to different years -- 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s). Ours was decked out with a giant big wheel and 8-tracks. Pretty neat. Other buildings had rubics cubes, dancers, and all that. (We also noticed that all the women dancers seemed to have giant kazungas on them as well...not sure if that's representing the 70s or not!).The view from our room. The tree in the lobby area.Giant Jungle Book dudes.8-track man.The rubics cube building.

We dumped our bags in the room and headed to the giant feeding gallery (cafeteria-style dining, but I like my description better, plus it's way more accurate). We signed up for the Disney dining plan program where you pre-pay for meals and you're designated one quick-service meal, one sit-down meal and one snack per day. I think it's also the Disney obesity plan seeing as the quick-service meal included a drink, a main course AND dessert. The sit-down meal included an appetizer, a main and dessert AGAIN. I don't think I ever finished a meal. There was just too much food. Plus the appetizers are the size for sharing with a whole table, not one person! Oof.You can buy booze in the caferteria! And I now know why...Tye-dyed cheesecake. Gourmet, non?Mini-doughnuts (whoops...'Pop-ettes') that Trevor was eyeing up that night.

That night we had the 'Mom's dinner' special (and did 'Mom' ever want you to up your sodium levels! Everything was SO salty). We got the turkey dinner (nothing like my mom's that's for sure!) and scarfed it down. I got a Mickey-shaped rice krispie treat on a stick that I saved for later and Trevor got a cupcake that had icing so sweet it could probably be used as some sort of fuel. I suppose that would be perfect for a 7-year-old jacking themselves up on sugar before hitting the park, lol.'Mom's' dinner. The rocket fuel cupcake.Butter-flavoured 'spread'. Really, really horrible.

We checked out the arcade that was in the main hotel area as well and Trevor found his nemesis...the 'Flaming Finger' game by Namco. HIs eyes flash with some sort of evil fire when he sees those machines and he feels the need to beat the game. Which he did. So I suppose all is not lost there and he was able to give the game a one-upping. Take that metal box with a screen and heart-pounding music! My finger really IS flaming! LOLFlame-on finger!

After that we went and tried to sleep in our room, but discovered that our beds (that were supposed to be queen-sized) were really masquerading as DOUBLES. We spent an hour and a half trying to get comfortable in one and finally gave up around midnight when we decided that sleeping ass to ass was not comfortable, nor good for our relationship! So separate beds it was, and I must say, I didn't sleep too badly!

Next up: Day 2 coming soon!

Richard Spacey's Evolution of Dance

This was our cruise director, who was so entertaining. Just a little hint of what we got to see on our vacation!

First day back

It was nice to sleep in our own bed last night. Nothing quite beats that. And being exhausted helps as well, lol. We had a long flight back (almost 6 hours) and Trevor managed to not rip the head off a little snotty kid behind him who kicked his chair the whole way, and I managed to not punch in the face of the old BAG who was sitting beside me elbowing me in the side the whole way.

That was only a small part of the vacation. Since we were gone nearly 2 weeks (I KNOW...how could you all not get your fix of me for that long!?!?!? LOL) there's no way I can just sum up the trip in just a few blog posts. These will be in parts, for sure. And there's no way I'm going to be doing it all today! (Unless I want the laundry to fester a little longer...) I haven't even opened up the bags to see if my über-packing managed to keep the breakables from breaking. Although I haven't seen anything dripping or leaking from the bags so I'm thinking everything is okay in there.

So today is going to be a big-time maintenance day to get everything back to normal (if that's possible). And then I have to seriously sit down and make some lists up so I can go out and hit the shops without turning into a madwoman (I had a small preview of the stores yesterday and it's scary out there).

But, I will be back with the tons of photos (and even video!) that I have all tucked away!

It's vacation time.

I'd like to make a withdrawal from the good karma bank

Hopefully everyone who reads this blog can do the same and send some good vibes to my sister who's in the hospital at the moment.

Snowy weekend

It snowed like crazy here this weekend. We got a foot of snow to shovel (ahem, Trevor to shovel). My job is to go outside with a broom and smack the bushes and trees that are getting too weighed down by the snow. Our power stayed on (flickered a little bit), but for the most part it was really pretty to see the snowflakes falling outside the window while we were putting up the tree and doing some Christmas decorating. Trés festive!!!

Evidence of snow accumulation:
Even more came the next day:
And you know it's getting closer to Christmas when you see this on TV:(is it just me or is the log a little bit too early? I guess not if I'm watching it!)

We also spent most of the weekend cleaning (or clearing) the living room for the couch placement and tree area. It was a lot of work, but well worth it in the end (and not to mention, makes the house seem civil for once, no crap in that room!). We didn't get as much done as I would have liked, but hey, at least we made a difference.

Mike and Cynthia came over on Friday night for dinner and a bad-ass game of Skip-Bo (none of us have ever played it). Cynthia cleaned up with winning the game, and the two of them had to go because Cynthia was driving home and her 'L' status doesn't let her drive past midnight. But, we did keep on playing, just the two of us, to see who would have been the loser, lol! Mike came in second, I came in third, and Trevor drowned in his cards and came last...I mean, was the loser. HAHAHA. (Note: We played last night and he did manage to win.)

And now today, I am in panic mode, but also a bit (well a lot) bummed out about something that happened today. I'll put that in a separate post.
