Well, we went, we ran, and we conquered! LOL Neither of us knew what we were in for with this class, but it ended up being pretty fun and something different to do on a Tuesday night. We started with choosing floatation belts to strap on (you'd think they'd stay around your waist, but they hike up under your boobs no matter what!) and then a bungee cord to strap through the back of the belt to attach on to the lane dividers so you can stay in place (or I thought they might strap under the crotch...ewww, no thanks!!!).
It took the first set of 7 minutes of running to get a good feel for the techinque you're supposed to use (more exagerrated movements than land running), but once you get in the groove it's not too bad. We did 7 sets of different speeds for different times for about 35-40 minutes.
The strangest (and most unexpected) things were: the water going from warm to cold once you started to go hard, AND, when you get out of the pool at the end you feel like you weigh a million pounds. That was really weird!
We've both decided that you need to eat an early dinner of something that's not acidic (or something too garlicy or spicy) beforehand because running in the water makes you burp every now and then. lol Not nice!
When we came home, I drank a bunch of water (you don't realize how thirsty you end up getting), and Trevor made himself a sandwich (lol...even though he almost wanted to eat a cheeseburger on the way home -- kinda defeats the purpose of the class!).
Until next Tuesday!

While peppermint oil cooks my brain...
(I have a headache, going both barrels of medical - Advil, and theraputic - the oil, bare with me, the tingling coolness is good!) Class was good today, it was pretty packed in which makes me happy that I arrive there with about 20 minutes to spare to grab my nice cozy spot in the back corner. I've done classes up front and it's no biggie, but I really like the wall space to dump my stuff, and there's no 'flailers' beside me then.
Today was a different day at class though...the rarely spotted MAN in the class was there. It was like seeing an extinct animal walk in, I had to double check that it wasn't just a manly-woman coming through the door. But no, it really was A MAN. I knew he hadn't been to this class before because he didn't now how to look at the instructor's stash to see what items we would need that day. So he dragged out every item in the storage room he thought he would need (which was kind of cute to watch), when all he needed was a mat and some weights.
There were some newbies that didn't fess up about it (the instructor asks if she sees new people). I don't understand why people pretend; I'm the first on to put up my hand to say that I don't know a thing so HELP ME. Maybe they're scared the instructor will chew their heads off, but she's not like that (believe me, I've had one).
And I've also got a buddy there now too, which is nice! It's a girl around my age, so we complain together that we think we're going to die. LOL! It's always good to have a partner that feels the way you do. And someone you can make faces at in class like 'I-really-think-I'm-going-to-die-now'.
Other than that fine action, we (yes me AND Trevor!) are looking into some classes TOGETHER. Amazing, I know. Actually, I will give Trevor some props, he has tried some things with me (an aerobics class...that I still laugh about), so don't think that he never tries. He tries once, getting the second and third try on deck is much harder because he now knows what he's in for. Anywhoo, he's been told to reduce stress from work by getting some more physical activity, but because of his whole itchy-alergic-to-his-own-sweat deal (and no, I'm totally serious, it's an actual condition, even though it sounds like a really funny excuse), he only rides a bike (really fast and really far), he needs something else to do when he can't ride a bike.
Enter...water running! This way, there's no itchy-ness in the water, and it's something we can do together. ooooo togetherrrrr. LOL It starts April 1st, and I still have to sign us up for it. I wonder how interesting that will be...

A new class
So yesterday I went to a new class at the rec centre called 'ABT' (abs, butt, thighs...*rolling eyes* I think that name sucks, but whatever -- sounds like a sandwich). The instructor from the Thursday class teaches it, and she cornered me last Thursday (okay, I was last out of the class so she started talking to me) and told me that she wants to see me at her Tuesday ABT class. Being an equal-opportunity sort of person (and being scared of her and her threats, LOL, no, kidding) I went and checked it out. WELL, let me tell you, I thought the 'A' of 'ABT' might have referred to me laughing more than anything. There were some interesting people there that I don't see on Thursdays (and some I do) that had me hiding my face in my arm to try not to laugh.
You see, there are different types of people who come to these classes.
Here are the ones that showed up yesterday:
- The uncoordinated person. I kid you not, this one woman did EVERYTHING exactly opposite to how everyone else was doing it. We go left, she would go right. Our arms would be up, hers would be down.
- The sweatbands-are-still-cool person. (Also should be jheri curls are still cool too...) She wore a headband. I could not believe it.
- The over-exert-er. This was the worst one for me to see out the corner of my eye and not laugh. I know there are people who do the more difficult or more strenuous moves, but this woman was taking it to a new level. Big arm swings, curving her spine in, thrusting, leg flailing. Oh, and she dropped a heavy bar on the floor once too.
For the most part, everybody there flies under the radar and just goes with the flow. It's not a place or class that people look you up and down with sniffs of dissatisfaction. We all know we're there to jump around, sweat and look ugly. (LOL!) I just like to point out the local colour.

Made it!

Well, Thursday take two! I finally made it to the step class that was going to take last week. It went about an hour long and *hurrah!* no 6-pack nazi instructor. I hate to be smug, but I really like it when there's people in the class worse than me! It was a nice change from the usual week routine and the class wasn't huge. I thought there would have been a lot more 'resolutions' keeners getting in on the class, maybe it's because it's at 9:15am and they don't turn out that early. :)
We also got Trevor's wheel back yesterday, all repaired! No more sinking our savings into a $550 wheel from Chrysler! The repaired wheel looks so good you wouldn't be able to tell where it happened (but I can, I have an eagle-eye *caw caw*). But it looks great and makes the other three wheels look like crap because they're all dirty and the repaired one is all *bling bling*. lol
Other than all that excitement, I've been trying to finish the pantry organization (slowed down a bit, I have to plan things out a bit more for optimum efficiency, lol!) and we went to Ikea on Tuesday night and bought a bunch of storage boxes (in green *lovely*, warm grey and white). I also bought two of these:
They are glass and stainless steel (and wood somewhere), and can be wall mounted or have legs added to become a sideboard. So one's going next to my desk (where there's a heater, and mounted to the wall with the extra support from 2 legs) and the other is going under the 'fake-out' electrical panel (thanks to a 'Sarah's House' idea of mounting a frame with a hinge over top with a magnet closure, voila! no ugly panel!). Both are nice and compact and offer oodles of storage, which is what I need in here. And I'm still basking in proud auntie mode. I went out and bought a little teddy bear for the little man that I had my eye on last night. *sigh!* Can't wait to meet him! But I've had word from the new mom that he gained 5 grams in weight yesterday, so it's just a matter of being patient and waiting for him to beef up and get strong.

Bring it! (It's already been brought-en!)

Well, tomorrow I'm going to try out a new class at the rec centre. It's a step class, which isn't anything new for me. I've been taking these types of classes on and off since grade 12 (scrunchy socks have been burned though!). I thought about taking a pilates class but figured that I have dvds with that on it, but no room in the house for a step thingie, so the decision was made.
I really hope it's not the crazy 6-packed nazi instructor that teaches classes at the rec centre that's closer to the house. I'm purposely going farther away to avoid her. *shudder* Fingers crossed she doesn't have a monopoly on the rest of the city.
(I will say that I have had many good step instructors, particularly one in New West who, I think, was gay and had the greatest sing-songy voice when he taught a class. Right Cynthia? LOL! Sev-en!)
...and step 1-2-3-4...
